Useful Information about Proximity Switches

Proximity switches are devices specifically designed to open or close circuits under a particular condition. These gadgets can be used to open a door automatically when a person approaches it. With the advancement in electronics these days, these sensors have encountered great improvements in terms of their functions in commercial and residential sectors. This article intends to discuss the applications and specific types of proximity switches.

Proximity switches are typically used in machine tool safety. They are also useful in the detection of moving objects and material handling, as well as in various manufacturing applications. Furthermore, these devices are essential in the assembly line and component positioning. Since there are varying objects in different conditions, these switches also come in several types depending on their purpose. In the industrial sector, proximity sensors are flexible in harsh environments and can operate in hostile areas.

With the use of infrared technology, optical proximity switches are designed to be sensitive to infrared light. These gadgets can be applicable in environments where there are noise, light and radiation. The magnetic type of sensors detects the presence of a magnetic field. On the other hand, an ultrasonic switch is a transmitter device that sends out a modulated signal, allowing the device to sense the presence of an object. Meanwhile, the inductive proximity sensor can spot metallic objects that are made electrically conductive metal. When it comes to detecting the presence of non-metallic objects, the capacitive proximity type is useful for sensing plastic parts, glass bottles and bulk materials.
