Innovative Robotics Technology to Help Improve Healthcare System

Some years ago, open surgery meant cutting through the patient's skin in order to reach the part that needed to be treated. This was most common for patients with tumours, cysts, and the like. Although this conventional method successfully saved a lot of people, it also caused various complications, not to mention the longer recovery period and the many different limitations. Fortunately, robotics was introduced to the field of medicine.

Today, robotics is used for conditions that have a thin margin for error. As a matter of fact, it is becoming an integral part of various complicated surgeries, as it exposes patients to lesser infections, while reducing the recovery time. This technology is more commonly used in laparoscopy, which is a surgery performed in the abdomen or pelvis through small incisions, usually about 0.5-1.5 centimetres, with the support of a tiny camera. Aside from surgery though, robotics can also be used to just diagnose a patient.

The technology is also applicable in gynaecological diagnosis to check the exterior part of the uterus, ovaries, and the fallopian tubes. This is typically done by making an incision near the navel and another one close to the pubic hairline. The device utilised in the process is commonly known in the medical world as "fertiloscope."

The advantages of robotics do not stop there because it can also used by pharmacies to dispense thousands and thousands of medications on a daily basis with little to no errors. The robots used by chemists can hold hundreds of different kinds of medicines and thousands of doses. As a result, chemists are able to save as many resources as possible.
